Try wp super cache - it generates actual HTML documents and uses extra-fancy mod_rewrites to direct your users dynamically to it, dramatically reducing your CPU load.

As far as hosts go, check out Dreamhost. (http://www.dreamhost.com/r.cgi?285110) They're dirt cheap, don't give you CPU quotas, and have a promotion for unlimited storage and bandwidth going on right now.

I agree that ocaoimh.ie/wp-super-cache is better. As for Dreamhost, I don't know if their CPU quota is better. All I know is that they offer unlimited domains, DBs, and huge everything else. In case you're interested here is a coupon code for their max discount, I think it's $50 or so: MAXDREAM

Don't go Dreamhost. It's really only your luck that gets you a decent shared hosting server there. I have a shared hosting account on DH, and it works fine, but a friend's DH shared hosting account was VERY VERY slow. If you plan on getting a VPS, they work just fine though.

Perhaps you could try moving to a better performing platform with your current host? A Python based solution rather than PHP based could run a lot better.

Avoid hosts that use popular control panels such as cPanel and Plesk that require little effort to install, as it shows the inexperience of the company and their lack of knowledge when it comes to optimising their servers and dealing with clients. Try and find a host that uses its own panel software or a less well known option such as LxAdmin. A host using LxAdmin is far more likely to offer a stable, optimised hosting service due to the low resource usage of the panel itself and the high amount of customisation that is allowed, unlike with cPanel which uses masses of resources and tightly restricts the management of the server.
