  Ok, confession time, I'm one of those lol or used to be. I had to have my base "look good" i had a set build order etc and would even sell certain things if i didn't like the way it loooked lol got over that quick.

  This comic reminds me of my first experience with SimCity. It was a rude awakening that you can't just build any dang city configuration you want and have a functional city. As my city stagnated and funds dwindled, I was forcibly brought to realize the necessity of roads and power lines.

  You say that this is for the 1% audience, but I have to admit this is funny even to those 99% unwashed masses (such as myself). The conection of the pipe base and Rene Magritte's work I missed completely until was pointed out by someone else, but the idea of the 'newbie' gamer building an entirely unusuable base and this being the reaction of those little doomed terrans or Nod soldiers is easily accessable and humorous even to the less art history educated.

  Ohhhh my god! this is really separate from what everyone else is saying, but WHAT IS THE NAME OF THAT GAME! It was my favorite game on my old computer and I don't remember what it's called anymore. I've been looking for it for ever! Other than that fantastic comic.

  no that's not it, I remember it was like, a defense against aliens type thing, and you had to build walls and towers and all sorts of other things to keep them out. There were sentries to shoot at them...and stuff, but command & conquer is close.

  Wow, its like some awesome combination of Dune, Tiberium Sun and Red Alert (I noted a neat lil' Tesla Coil in the bottom corner).
  
  If only I got the joke first time round... ah well. Keep up the great artwork, it puts mine to shame lol.

  An old game called Utopia comes to mind. It was more like a SimCity game, but with the added bonus of aliens constantly harrassing your ass.
