WINDMILLS DO NOT WORK THAT WAY
  • Joachim · 1 year ago
but.... what about the flying Dutchman?
  • NP · 1 year ago
The irony being, sea level rise will allow your garden variety pirate to raid Holland with impunity.
  • Will · 1 year ago
Except that's nothing near a Dutch accent.
And we don't say "Yah," or Ja.
  • Alex · 1 year ago
You don't say "Yah," but you do have sky pirates???
  • Kashkin · 1 year ago
Why would they be talking in broken English to each other, if you want to be picky about language.

I want that last panel as my wallpaper.
  • Jordan · 1 year ago
Turns out dutch actually IS just broken english. Seriously it sounds like british people pretending to speak german.
  • Vernes · 1 year ago
I think it's a lovely way to describe the dutch language.
    Much more then it's worth.
  • European · 1 year ago
Also, look at the fellow next to the sheep: Lederhösen (or what do you call these pants?) -- you guys definately got Germans confused with Dutchmen. Not the landscape though, that's Holland alright.

    Hey, but nice artwork anyway!
  • Off · 1 year ago
Heh, I'm pretty sure there are Dutchmen who wear lederhosen-like pants. A quick google image search reveals hard forensic evidence toward this end...

Regardless, Eric and I really don't know a damn thing about Holland other than the fact that they have lots and lots of windmills. I suppose we could have done some research, but in cases such as this it seems far more amusing to go with the horribly distorted cultural image in our heads. We probably went over the top with the completely absurd accents, though... Please forgive us, Holland!
  • Marc · 1 year ago
You can find pictures of americans wearing lederhosen too, doesnt mean that lederhosen are part of American culture, because lederhosen sure arent part of dutch culture.
(personally, I dont care what you write about my country, its a comic, good for some laughs and to attribute anything more to it would be silly, but you brought it up :D )
  • dex · 1 year ago
hmm.. we'll think about it ;)
  • Bridgebrain · 1 year ago
This is the best one I've seen today! Arrrr...
  • Bas · 1 year ago
The accent doesn't make sense, same mistake as they made in Austin Powers: Goldmember. This is more German-like.
  • Luisa · 1 year ago
WINDMILLS DO NOT WORK THAT WAY. GOODNIGHT.

    (I'm sorry, I had to.)
  • Daniel · 1 year ago
Anything that even remotely smacks of making fun of the Dutch is bonus in my book.
  • Lemmy · 1 year ago
    fake.

no cheese, no smoking joints, no matjes herring. can't be holland.
  • Abraham · 1 year ago
The girl is dressed like Germans and Swiss think that a milkmaid in Holland is dressed. The boy is a German countryboy. Nobody! is wearing a "lederhosen" in Holland. It is considered to be even worser than wearing a Burka. And you will definitely see no grass (but sandbeaches) and no windmill on the seaside. But it is a cartoon and everything is allowed in it!!!
  • Moses · 1 year ago
I think you hit a nerve, guys... don't even remotely-- even accidentally-- associate the Dutch with the Germans. NOT FANS of each other. That being said, great cartoon!!
  • Kat · 1 year ago
Funny, but my inner dutchophile dislikes the nondutchness...
  • Muninn · 1 year ago
Honestly This comic cracked me up :D
Being a Dutchy myself, the missmatched sterotype just makes the comic extra amusing.

Generally I just want to compliment you with all your comics. Very funny!
  • Ger · 1 year ago
being dutch altough late i found myself tempted to reply to this

your "hard forensic evidence" might be because the pensylvania dutch are germans and the dutch call the germans duits ...its your fault for not naming countries by their real name :P
  • BadFellas · 1 year ago
Argh! The insult! We Dutchies are not Germans!
Other than that, the comic is nice :)
  • Der Rubin · 1 year ago
    WINDMILLS DO NOT-

    Oh.
  • Icarus · 1 year ago
You know, we have many, many windmills in The Netherlands. Not like the one you see in the cartoon, but modern ones. Slim, tall, silent.. But it's so incredibly stupid.. Do you have ANY IDEA how much electricity it takes to let one windmill turn? How about the other 10,000's of them!! With all this Global Warming stuff going on, we actually consume HUGE amounts of power to let those new windmills turn and make wind for us. Now you know why it's always windy in The Netherlands. Why not tear all those new, modern windmills down and save some power! We're so stupid!! ;-)
  • hans · 1 year ago
    Bullcrap, Icarus.
We have plenty of windmills like the one in the cartoon. They're called "monuments" and are being preserved as part of our heritage.
The rest of your story being sarcasm of some kind, I suspect you meant it as a joke, but no dutchman should deny the existence of the old-typed windmill. They're just too cool for that.

But the lederhosen and accents are really wrong. Even though most of us have accents (horrible ones), it wouldn't sound like that.
Actually, you wouldn't find better english in the whole of europe, except maybe in Great Britain.

I just think the hilarity comes from the switching of Forward to Reverse, in reference to the sky pirates.

    Holland controls the sky pirates.

  • Gauje · 1 year ago
    wat?

I'm going to assume you're joking Vicarious.
  • Marc · 1 year ago
    I don't think he is...
Some people don't like it if you refer to the Netherlands as Holland, I am not one of them, but Vicarious might be.
(technically, the closest thing to Holland would be the two provinces of north, and south Holland in the Netherlands)
  • jeweet · 10 months ago
Lol we do not talk like Germans
  • Captain · 5 months ago
Yeah I agree, the Dutch don't sound like Germans when they speak. Their accent is a lot uglier though, lol. But different.
  • Vincent · 9 months ago
    Stereotypes je weet toch! ;-)

There's a lot to like about living in the Netherlands, but unfortunately flying pirates are not part of them :P
